The Perfume is a performance, based on the Novelle "Das Parfum" by the German writer Patrick Süskind.
We are living in a time, where we human beings are becoming more and more individualistic. We learn how to search for our own personal path, to reach our own personal goals with the intention of becoming successful. But what happens when we reach our goal? And is it possible to exist without success?
These questions I found interesting to lighten up through this story.
With this project I wanted to challenge myself in transforming a book into a theatre play. I also wanted to explore how I can create the experience of smell in the theatre without using smell. Last but not least, The Perfume is a story where several murders are happening. I found it a big challenge to explore how I could create all of these murders in a way, where every one of them would still be exciting, sensitive or scary to watch.
